HFF Meeting April 2022

The first agenda item is that we need to thank Larry Barber, Mike Donovan. and Kevin  Montague for their work with the rod building and fly tying classes. At the April meeting Larry will demonstrate  how to attach a leader to a fly line. Now it is time to take those new tools and skills out to the water and catch some fish!!

2019 HFF Annual Auction
HFF Annual Auction

Only nine more daze left until  the HFF Auction. That is right, the annual auction will be on April 19th. This is always a fun filled event and we get to listen to Kevin charm us out of all out of our tax returns.  As usual the auction will feature items donated by the club members. These items need to be related to fishing and general wholesome outdoor activities. There are usually some real bargains including flies tied buy members, perhaps a rod or two, stream side gadgets, and things you didn’t even know you needed.

So. The auction will be at the American Legion on April 19th. Dinner at 6:00 and the program at 7:00.

It is always fun to hear Kevin’s dulcet tones prodding us to bid for treasures. Hope to see you all there and in the meantime  gather up some high class stuff for the auction.

Stay warm and dry,

Tim

March 2022 HFF Meeting

The next meeting of the Hoosier Fly Fishers will be March 15th. As usual, we will meet at the American Legion Post at 19800 W> 3rd ST. Bloomington. Dinner at 6:00 and the program at 7:00

So far this year we have had a rod building class, the fly-tying class is under way and the last program was Larry Barber’s extensive presentation on what fish eat. This month’s meeting will involve putting it all together. Starting with the rod, reel, backing, lines, leaders, tippets, knots  and finally the fly. There will be some show and tell, suggestions on rigging the rod, and choosing good flies for local waters, ( bring examples of some of your favorite flies.)  We will also share information about the location of local waters, both moving and still and discuss tackle and tactics for these different water types.

This is a lot of “stuff” to be in one meeting! It is our hope that this meeting will answer some questions and prompt  some new questions and a few suggestions for future meeting topics. I am hoping the weather gets around to giving us a reasonable chance to take all this equipment, information and skills out on the water and perhaps even catch a fish or two…

Looking forward to see you all on the 15th at the Legion. Dinner at 6:00 program at 7:00.

Stay warm and dry, Tim
