Don’t forget to write 2015 on your checks, that’s right we are in a new
year. However, it may be a bit cold to fish right now. The January
meeting of the HFF will be 1/20/15 at he Colorado Steakhouse. Dinner at 6:00 and the program will begin at 7:00.
This month’s program will feature Derrick Filkins of Flymasters
(http://www.flymasters.com) in Indy. He will talk with us about
warmwater fly fishing. Many of us have met Derrick up there at
Flymasters. He teaches their rod building class and also does some
guiding. Derrick has spoken to us in the past, back in the days at the
Elks, about “What Fish See” (by Colin Kageyama). If you are heading up to Indy for the Indiana Fly Fishing Expo, stop by Flymasters for
their Cabin Fever Days January 10&11th.
Mike Donavon will demo tying the Lead Wing Coachman. I am anxious to see how Mike sets the wings on this historic wet fly.
“The Leadwing Coachman finds it’s origins in the early 1820’s as an
offering from a carriage driver, Tom Bosworth, to his English Lord for
fishing. The original Coachman fly was a wet pattern of a peacock herl body, white duck quill wing, and brown throat hackle.”

Hope to see you all there on the 20th. Looking forward to hearing Derrick talk about warm water fly fishing and to watch Mike tie the Leadwing Coachman.
Stay warm,
Tim
