February 18 HFF Meeting

The February meeting will be on the 18th. But, you already knew that. The program this month will be all about fly tying, four of our members, excellent tiers each and everyone will show use some tricks and answer questions. So come and watch Mike Donovan, Barry Clarke, Dick Powell and Paul Brown at work. These guys are so good the fish will chew through the ice, crawl across College Ave just to see what’s up and perhaps have a bite to eat. I’m just sayin’. So, come join us on the 18th at the Colorado Steakhouse. Dinner at 6:00 and the program begins at 7:00.

It is entirely possible that I am not the only one sick and tired of this weather. It will be over someday, at least I hope so. I have heard some of our members have been ice fishing with some success. Don’t they understand that we live in a WARM WATER fishery? For God’s sake, you can buy frozen fish at Krogers.

I will admit they caught some fish but, I still think that if you have to use a cooler to keep the bait warm it is too damn cold to fish.

See you all next Tuesday at the Colorado Steakhouse,

Fly Tying Feb 08, 2014

A few members braved the elements and joined together at JL Waters in downtown Bloomington for a couple of hours of fly tying. This was the first of the fly tying meetings to be held on various Saturdays during the year. Check the meetings notes or the HFF Calendar to see when the next fly tying event will be held. Four fly tyers along with 3 visitors met in the downstairs space that JL Waters now has set up for meetings like this. Tables, chairs and some lighting were available for us to use and I think it will be set up better for the next event.

Tim M and Mike B worked on tying some deer hair bugs while Dick Powell showed how his rotary vise worked with dubbing loops and Mike Donovan tied some glass beaded nymphs. Kevin M came in later and took a few photos for us. Check the gallery below, thanks Kevin.
