February HFF Meeting

The next meeting of the HFF will be February 16th.  As always, we will meet at the Colorado Steakhouse. Dinner at 6:00 PM and the program at 7:00 PM.

Our program this month will be a presentation by Jill Vance, C.G.I. Interpretive Naturalist for Monroe Lake. Jill will tell us all about the Special Events and programs going on at Monroe Lake. She will be asking for our help with two events. The first event is on June 4th, Youth Fishing Derby and the second event is on September 24th, Furs, Fins and Feathers. For the second event she will be asking for our help with some fly casting and fly tying demos.  I might also add for anyone interested Shoreline Cleanup will be September 11th.

To find more Monroe Lake Special Events you can download a flyer here:

Mike Donovan will be tying a hair wing streamer for the tying demo at the February Meeting. As usual, I am sure it will be very informative.  Maybe someday soon it will warm enough to actually use some flies.

Speaking of fly tying, the HFF will be having beginner fly tying lessons the first three Saturdays of March. These will be held at JLWaters and will start at 9:30 in the morning. More details will be coming very soon.  In the meantime, feel free to contact Larry Barber at lbarber@bluemarble.net for more information.

It is time to get that new Indiana State Park Pass, and soon it will be time to renew fishing license.  You can do this online at the INDNR Licensing website.

See you all at the Colorado Steakhouse next Tuesday.

Stay warm, Tim

FISH REPORT: Fish are till hitting if you can find the Honey Hole and have the appropriate size and color fly. Rumors are that over 100 fish were taken in the last two weeks from open water. The Honey Hole has become quite the popular place for members to meet up.

January HFF Meeting

Mike Exl Wildcat Creek Outfitters
Mike Exl Wildcat Creek Outfitters

The next meeting of the HFF will be January 19 at the Colorado Steakhouse; dinner at 6:00 and the program will begin at 7:00.  Our friend Mike Exl from Wildcat Creek outfitters will talk with us about Carp fishing. Looking forward to having Mike back again, I am sure it will be a great talk.

The tying demo will be a weighty matter. I will be talking about flies using dumbbell eyes Clouser style for weight. I will bring examples of a number of patterns using this system of weighting flies.

The February meeting will be on the 16th and will feature Jill Vance, C.I.G. Interpretive Naturalist for Monroe Lake. Jill will tell us about all the outdoor activities she organizes for Monroe. And I understand she will be asking for help with the June 4th Youth Fishing Derby and in September, the Furs, Fins and Feathers.  Looking forward to this.

See: INDNR Lake Monroe     for up to date Lake Monroe Information.

Hope to see you all on the 19th at the Colorado Steakhouse for an exciting meeting.

Stay warm,

Tim
